Fujishima Akira is the father of photocatalysis, the discoverer of the Honda-Fujishima effect, and also an international authority in the fields of photochemistry, nanomaterials, and energy and environmental chemistry.
His researches have brought significant scientific and technological impact and social benefits to many fields such as chemistry, energy, environment, material science, and biomedicine.
3 of his Chinese students have become academicians. He received the Chinese Government Friendship Award in 2019 and the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People's Republic of China in 2021.
